There are many species of plants and animals in Quebec. We have to observe their details and characteristics to be able to identify them and tell them apart. Different species have different needs, which means they can be affected differently by changes in their environment. These changes can be caused by human activity or natural disturbances (high winds, forest fires, etc.). Environmental changes can pose a threat to the species who are most impacted by them. Knowing how to recognize the different species is a good first step toward helping them by, for example, avoiding picking certain plants or by protecting their habitat.
